Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care

Teaching Staff and Responsibilities

Mrs C. Crossley: Subject Leader & Teacher

Ms. S Ajose: Subject Teacher

KS5/A Level (Y12-13)

How do we organise teaching groups at KS5?

At KS5, classes are taught in option groups which are all mixed ability.

Which Level 3 specification do we prepare pupils for?

We offer OCR AAQ Cambridge Advanced National (Extended Certificate) in Health and Social Care. This qualification aims to provide an introduction to the sector and is suited to learners who are interested in learning about the Health and Social Care sector as part of a balanced study programme. It is equivalent in value and scope to one A Level. The qualification supports access to a range of higher education courses possibly, but not exclusively, in health and social care, if taken alongside other Level 3 qualifications.

What will my daughter learn at KS5?

The course consists of two examinations and four non-examined assessments (NEAs). The weighting of the two examinations combined is 55% and the NEAs 45%.

Year 12

F090 Principles of health and social care – externally assessed unit.

F092 Person-centred approach to care – internally assessed unit.

F093 Supporting people with mental health conditions – internally assessed unit.

Year 13

F091 Anatomy and physiology for health and social care – externally assessed unit.

Two of the following option units (chosen by teaching staff)-

F094 Supporting people with long-term physiological conditions – internally assessed unit.

F095 Investigating public health – internally assessed unit.

F096 Supporting people in relation to sexual health, pregnancy and postnatal health – internally assessed unit.

F097 Supporting healthy nutrition and lifestyles – internally assessed unit.

Are there any websites that will support my daughter’s learning?

Future pathways/careers

The AAQ qualification offers the flexibility to either pursue a career in the Health and Social Care sector or as a route into further and higher education when combined with other appropriate AAQ courses/ A levels. There is a wide variety of career pathways associated with having a qualification in Health and Social Care. Some of these include:

  • Adult nurse
  • Counsellor
  • Occupational therapist
  • Personal trainer
  • Physician associate
  • Social worker
  • Youth worker
  • Midwife
  • Psychologist

Past pupils have gone onto access university courses in Paramedic Science, Psychology, Nursing, Midwifery, and teaching, to name a few. We have also had students who have gone on to enter the world of work, working in the Health and Social Care sector.
