KS5/A Level (Y12-13)

How do we organise teaching groups at KS5?

At KS5, classes are taught in option groups which are all mixed ability.

Which BTEC specification do we prepare pupils for?

We offer Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care. This qualification aims to provide an introduction to the sector.  This qualification is suited to  learners who are interested in learning about the Health and Social Care sector as part of a balanced study programme.  It is equivalent in value and scope to one A Level. The qualification supports access to a range of higher education courses possibly, but not exclusively, in health and social care, if taken alongside further Level 3 qualifications.

What will my daughter learn at KS5?

Year 12

The following units will be covered across the two years:

Human Lifespan Development – externally assessed unit.

Within this unit pupils will study the social, emotional, physical and intellectual development across all life stages.

Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs – internally assessed unit.

Within this coursework unit pupils will work with 3 case studies of people who access health and social care services and will assess and evaluate their care.

Year 13

Working in Health and Social Care – externally assessed unit.

Within this unit pupils will learn about the different roles and responsibilities of a Health and Social Care worker.

Physiological Disorders and their Care – internally assessed unit.

This coursework unit will require the pupils to select their own case study to base their work upon. They will present a physiological disorder, diagnose it and form a treatment plan to treat it.

Are there any websites that will support my daughter’s learning?

Future pathways/careers
