APPEAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR ENTRY TO YEAR 7 IN SEPTEMBER 2021

It was announced in January 2021 that The School Admissions (England) (Coronavirus) (Appeals Arrangements) (Amendments) Regulations 2021 would supersede the same regulations made in 2020 in response to the pandemic restrictions.

It is envisaged, therefore, that the appeal arrangements for entry to Year 7 in September 2021 will follow a similar pattern to those adopted in 2020 in that the closing date for receipt of appeals is Thursday, 1 April 2021 (that is, the last day of the Spring Term 2021 and just over the 20 school days specified in the School Admission Appeals Code: February 2012 from the notification that an application has been unsuccessful on 1 March 2021 to the closing date for receipt of appeals on 1 April 2021).

Appeal hearings are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 4 May 2021. However, depending upon the number of appeals submitted, it may be necessary to arrange further hearings on another date. Unfortunately, due to other commitments of the Independent Clerk and Panel members during the admission appeals season, it will not be possible to offer alternative dates if you opt to appear before the Panel via Zoom.

If you are considering making an appeal, it is very important that you inform the School using the e-mail address [email protected] or by telephone (01708 222660) so that a fuller statement as to why the Governing Body was unable to offer your daughter a place at the School can be sent to you before you submit your appeal (this document is likely to be crucial to the preparation of your appeal).

Similar to the arrangements adopted in 2020, face-to-face appeal hearings will not take place in 2021 due to pandemic restrictions that we now know will still be in force until at least 21 June 2021. Consequently, the Panel will consider each appeal on the paperwork submitted both by the appellant and by the school representatives (or, if the appellant so wishes, via a Zoom meeting).

You should be advised, therefore, that the general information provided below regarding appeals in ‘normal’ times, when it was possible to have face-to-face hearings at a neutral venue, is subject to significant change (as highlighted in yellow on pages 3, 4, 5 & 6) due to hearings being based on written representations alone (or via the Zoom platform).

GENERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR APPEALS

As stated in the published admission arrangements for entry to the School, any applicant refused a place has a legal right of appeal against the Governing Body’s decision not to allow admission.

Any applicant wishing to exercise their legal right of appeal should contact the School as soon as possible for an appeal form and further information (currently in the section at the top of the page)

The Governing Body will issue a detailed and individualised statement regarding their admission decision to all appellants.
