ARRANGEMENTS FOR APPEALS IN RELATION TO ENTRY TO YEAR 7 IN SEPTEMBER 2022
PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY
The Government is currently consulting regarding arrangements for appeal hearings against the decisions of governing bodies of schools that are their own admission authority not to offer a place for entry to Year 7 in September 2022.
At present, it is envisaged that the appeal arrangements for entry to Year 7 at Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School in September 2022 will be the same or similar to those adopted in 2020 and 2021 in that the closing date for receipt of appeals will be Wednesday, 30 March 2022 (that is two days before the end of the Spring Term 2022 and just over the twenty school days specified in the School Admission Appeals Code: February 2021 from the notification that an application has been unsuccessful on 1 March 2022 to the closing date for receipt of appeals on 30 March 2022).
The date for appeal hearings has been fixed for Tuesday, 3 May 2022, whatever format they take.
If you are considering making an appeal, it is very important that you inform the School using the e-mail address [email protected] or by telephoning (01708 222660) and asking to speak to Mrs Lefèvre so that a fuller statement as to why the Governing Body was unable to offer your daughter a place at the School can be sent to you before you submit your appeal (this document is likely to be crucial to the preparation of your appeal).
Subject to the outcome from the Government’s current consultation exercise, it is also envisaged that face-to-face hearings will not take place in 2022, as was the case in 2020 and 2021. Consequently, the Panel will consider each appeal on the paperwork submitted both by the appellant and by the school representatives (or, if the appellant so wishes, via a Zoom meeting). It is important that you indicate on the appeal form if you would like to meet with the Panel via Zoom otherwise it will be assumed that you wish to have your appeal heard solely on the basis of the paperwork submitted.
You should be advised that the general information document for appellants 2022 below was written at a time when face-to-face hearings at a neutral venue were taking place. It is possible that there might either be options to hold face-to-face hearings or to meet via Zoom or a combination of the two when the outcomes from the current consultation exercise are known, so the document below is subject to significant change (as highlighted in yellow on pages 3, 4, 5 and 6).

The Havering School Admissions Team manages the In-Year application process for Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School alongside all of the other schools in the Borough. You must, therefore, apply following the In-Year process set out in the following link:
Alongside this application, you must complete the school’s own Supplementary Information Form (SIF) for the relevant admission year which can be found elsewhere on this page . The return of this form and the other information to accompany it (if available) will enable the Governing Body to properly consider and classify your application.
GENERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR APPEALS
As stated in the published admission arrangements for entry to the School, any applicant refused a place has a legal right of appeal against the Governing Body’s decision not to allow admission.
Any applicant wishing to exercise their legal right of appeal should contact the School as soon as possible for an appeal form and further information (currently in the section at the top of the page)
The Governing Body will issue a detailed and individualised statement regarding their admission decision to all appellants.
