APPEAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO YEAR 7 IN SEPTEMBER 2020

As stated in the published admission arrangements for entry to the School in 2020-2021, any applicant refused a place has a legal right of appeal against the Governing Body’s decision not to allow admission.

Any applicant wishing to exercise their legal right of appeal should contact the School to inform them of their intention to appeal. An appeal form and further information are available below. Please use the e-mail address [email protected] for any correspondence via this means of communication.

The Governing Body will issue a detailed and individualised statement regarding their admission decision to all appellants as soon as possible after you notify the School of your intention to appeal.

COVID-19 Update

Following the closure of schools with effect from Monday, 23 March 2020, the normal process for the administration of appeals has been suspended and this may remain the case until schools reopen and social distancing/isolation and non-essential travel measures are relaxed.

Consequently, the original closing date for receipt of appeals of Wednesday, 1 April 2020 has been extended. However, it would be helpful if those wishing to appeal can confirm this in writing via e-mail ( [email protected] ) to the Clerk to the Governors, Mr Stuart Beck. Appeal forms and any related documentation should be submitted to Mr Beck by e-mail. However, if this is not possible or if appellants have already sent in appeal forms or documents to the School by post, please inform Mr Beck that this is the case as the School Office is not always fully operational whilst the School is closed.

Due to the current social distancing/isolation and non-essential travel measures currently in place, appeal hearings will not now take place on Wednesday, 22 April 2020 nor on Friday morning, 24 April 2020 as previously advised.

When/if appeal hearings take place in the usual manner, all appellants will be required to attend a session at the beginning of the first day (normally 9.00 a.m.) at which the Governing Body will present its case relating to oversubscription as part of the grouped appeal arrangements. Individual hearings will then take place later that day. If there are too many appeals received to be heard in one day, a further session of individual hearings will be arranged. Appellants will be given the time of the individual appeal hearing at a later stage once the total number of hearings are known.

The outcome of appeals will be communicated in writing within five working days of the hearing.
