6th Form Taster Lessons

SHOM Sixth form virtual taster day

As you are aware our ‘Taster Day’ was scheduled to be on Thursday 2nd July but due to current circumstances we have ‘gone virtual’.

Below you will find a welcome from our Headteacher and our Head Girl Team, as well as links to Taster Lessons to give you an idea of what each subject is like and a copy of the option blocks for this year.

We look forward to seeing you all on results day in August to sign up for your courses ready to start in September.

My name is Ms Qurrey and I am delighted to be able to say that from September I will be your Headteacher. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all.

It will be an exciting time for you starting your 6th Form career, whether as a two year or seven year learner at Sacred Heart of Mary. You will enjoy the care and support you gain from other pupils and the staff at the school and the challenge of your 6th Form studies.

The Head Girl, Hannah and her Deputies Alex, Grace and Emmie will ensure that you are welcomed into the Sacred Heart of Mary community and are able to get the very best out of your time in the 6th Form.  When asked what they really like about SHOM they stated that it was the fact that it was a ‘family’ and ‘a welcoming community’. SHOM is such a community of love, understanding and mutual respect where young people and staff are able to thrive, gain in knowledge and skills and truly follow the school motto of ‘Ut Vitam Habeant’, ‘live life to the full.’

Your end of Year 11 was not a usual one so it is even more important than ever that you come to school in September ready to grab every opportunity and immerse yourself in the life of the school. At these testing times we need to follow what St Paul says in his letter to the Philippians ‘I can do all things through Him who strengthen me.’

Take care and enjoy your summer.

God Bless

Ms Qurrey

Welcome Message from the Head Girl Team

Welcome to Sacred Heart of Mary Girls’ School.  We are sorry that you didn’t quite get the end of Year 11 that you all wanted and deserved, but we’re hoping that you will enjoy a great start to Sixth Form life.

We understand that you may be worried about going into Year 12.  We were too, but as your Head Girl Team, we hope that you will feel comfortable coming to us when you have any questions.  Year 12 is very different from Year 11 but everyone at Sacred Heart of Mary will help you to make the transition as easy as possible.  As Sixth Form students, we are expected to be more independent but this doesn’t mean that your teachers won’t be there for you when you need help.  Miss Holman, Head of Sixth Form and Mrs Williams, Assistant Head of Sixth Form, along with the Sixth Form tutor team, are always there to help and guide you.

During your time in the Sixth Form you will have the opportunity to be prefects, mentors, House officials as well as Head and Deputy Head Girls. All students are encouraged to embrace the idea of ‘living life to the full’.  We are sure that you will all make brilliant contributions towards our school community!

Hannah, Grace, Emmie and Alex
